What Is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry, sometimes referred to as “sleep dentistry,” uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures.
Despite the common nickname, patients are generally awake during many forms of dental sedation. General anesthesia is different because the patient is completely unconscious.

Sedation Can Range From Light Relaxation to General Anesthesia

Minimal Sedation
You remain awake but relaxed during treatment.
Moderate Sedation
Formerly called conscious sedation. You may become deeply relaxed and may remember little of the procedure.
Deep Sedation
You are near the edge of consciousness but can still be awakened.
General Anesthesia
You are completely unconscious during the procedure.
